I heard about chef Bryan Voltaggio being on Bravo’s Top Chef a while ago. Tonight is the premier. He is the proud Owner of VOLT, a restaurant here (where I live) in downtown Frederick, MD. I hear my husband will be taking me there for a date night soon. Though I have not formally dined at VOLT, I have been to the bar area and tried their delicious Mojito and was showered with amazing samples of food from the chef. I don’t think this made me special, I’m pretty sure they do this for everyone, but wow, the small bites I had were out-of-this-world.
I will be sure and post about my fancy dinner at VOLT. Until then - check out their site and watch Bryan cook his way to a win on Top Chef, Las Vegas!

Ever wonder how to properly set a table? I have. The folks over at Notebook Magazine have left us with some great tips on “how to” set a table. Hope this helps!
(photo: Toast and Tables)
“Although there is a little discrepancy between the British and the Americans when it comes to etiquette, everyone seems to agree you work from the outside in when choosing utensils and the inside out when selecting a glass.
A knife, fork and spoon, plus a plate and bowl of some description will get you though most casual meals at the kitchen table.
However, a complete cutlery set, usually comprising 56 pieces, a dinner set complete with five pieces per person, plus a selection of stemware are all key ingredients when it comes to playing host or simply adopting a ‘Keeping Up Appearances’ approach to everyday living.
Your menu will dictate what goes where.
We’ve assumed an entree, soup, main course and dessert menu.
How to arrange a place setting
Working left to right:
Place the entree fork, followed by the dinner fork, on the left of the dinner plate or charger.
Place the dinner knife, followed by the entree knife (blades facing inwards), dessert spoon and finally the soup spoon on the right of plate.
Position your bread plate above your dinner plate and slightly to the left. If you have butter knives, place one on the bread plate at a 45-degree angle, handle towards the place setting.
A water goblet or tumbler is positioned just above the dinner knife. Next in line are Champagne flute, red wine and white wine.
Don’t forget to clear related utensils and glasses at the end of each course!”

I just cannot get enough of these incredibly gorgeous cookies from SweetAbms ETSY shop. She says “each cookie is baked to order and decorated by hand.”
What an amazing favor these would be...or just a gift to brighten someones day! I know my day sure would be complete with a glass of milk and one of these. Although, they’re so pretty, I may just keep them around to gawk at for a few days.
These “button” cookies are SO adorable!
And these for a tea party...
Perfect for that Sweet 16!

Continuing on with the pink theme for this week, the It’s Pretty Good blog shared some lovely photos and a recipe for some delicious looking cupcakes with...you guessed it...pink icing! Mary takes all of these photos herself and no matter what the subject, they are breathtaking and so simplistic. I posted about this blog a while back, and still check it at least once a week for some much needed peaceful inspiration.
Enjoy making these cupcakes!!!!
