I was roaming around ETSY and found the cutest candles from the seller Candle Confections. I was so excited to see that she lives right here in Frederick, Maryland! My mouth is just watering looking at all of her selections from “Banana Nut Bread cupcake” (my favorite), “Chocolate Turtle Cheesecake cupcake”, “Old Fashioned Sugar and Spice Cookie melts”, and SO many more fabulous items.
Her descriptions will make you want to go out and buy the real thing! Check out this one for her “Bear Claws - Dessert in a jar” Candle
This Dessert in a Jar candle smells like the Bear Claws pastries you’d find, hot out of the oven, at your corner bakery: The fragrance of a light, flaky, and buttery pastry, mixed with cinnamon and notes of almond, then drizzled with sweet, sugary icing. Burn this candle, and your house will smell like a warm, cozy bakery! All you’ll need is a cup of coffee and a book.
Our Bear Claws are packed into a 16 oz. Apothecary jar, with two layers. The bottom is a pastry-color, and the top is colored in ivory, piled high. Topping off this “dessert” are mini cinnamon buns and a couple of cinnamon sticks, along with a sprinkling of real cinnamon sugar.
YUM!
Her products range from Cupcake Candles, Dessert in a Jar Candles, Votive Candles, Mini-Dessert Candles, Tart Slice Candles, and Melts. Any of these items would be absolutely perfect for a Christmas gift, or a stocking stuffer. You could even use them as party favors! I think...why wait to give them as gifts? Get some for yourself I am definitely going to be getting some to infuse the scents of the delicious sweets that I always love, but sometimes want to avoid the calorie intake.
Thanks so much to Sherry at Candle Confections for letting me feature her on my blog today! Be sure to keep checking back to her store. She will be adding many more Winter and Christmas items in addition to what is already listed.
Here are a few more items that really caught my eye...and my taste buds!

There’s a new BBQ place in downtown Frederick, MD called Black Hog. It was opened by the same Owner of Tasting Room, which is a restaurant and wine bar, also in downtown Frederick. Of course, as soon as my husband Tory heard about a BBQ restaurant opening he had to try it. The first time we tried to go was on a Sunday, but it was closed. We tried again that Monday...and luckily this time, it was open. Now, me being from Texas, I was a bit skeptical of a MD BBQ joint. Tory got the rack of ribs, and french fries...he loved them. I got the smoked sausage and potato salad. My reaction was a bit different from his overwhelming excitment for his “awesome” ribs. When I got the sausage I was expecting it to taste like the kind I get at the County Line in Austin. This wasn’t the case. It was more of a grilled kielbasa. Needless to say, I wasn’t a fan. The potato salad on the other hand, well...that was really good. It tastes like my Mom’s, hard boiled eggs and all.
A month or so later, we decided to give it another whirl when my Mother-in-Law wanted to meet us for dinner. This time I got the BBQ chicken (I’m just not a big BBQ pork fan). Luckily, Black Hog scored a home run this time. It was great! Tory, being the creature of habit he is, got the same thing he got the time before...ribs and fries. Along with my potato salad that I just had to have again, I got collard greens...YUM! Tory had no idea what they even were, and I thought he was going to die when I made him try some. At least he was a good sport about it, and for him to even try something like that took a lot. Overall I think Black Hog has great potential. It is in a great location, and unlike most downtown restaurants, has its own parking lot in the back. They have a small bar inside a very fun, family oriented interior. This is definately a genre of restaurant Frederick was lacking...and to much of my husbands delight, there’s finally a BBQ joint in town.
I haven’t been able to find a website for them yet, but if the Owner’s happen to come across this post...my husband is a full-time web designer (hint, hint), and we’d be more than happy to trade his design services for a few racks of ribs, or in my case...some potato salad.
Here is a photo of Tory enjoying his very first Black Hog rack of ribs.
